Backups
Backing up your organizations data is the first priority in the Disaster Recovery Plan. The second priority is to create a schedule to keep things backed up and the third is to test restore data on a frequent basis. There have been several different strategies that have been created to get those three item done. Aperio believes that we need to keep it simple. A full backup every night on to tape and the tape gets taken offsite every morning. To help keep the strategy simple we have maintained a partnership with Computer Associates, which makes the disaster recovery software Arcserve.
Recovery
Test restores of your data should be run on a regular basis. That way if anything happens that you can be confident that you recovery will be successful. When a recovery is necessary, accessibility to the quick access to the backup media is essential. There companies that will come a pick up the media on a regular basis that will return them on a moment’s notice. However those services maybe cost prohibitive, so we like to have a person of authority take the media home and place them in a personal safe.
